Dolly Parton Song Lyrics

1979 #1 Song "You're The Only One"

Dolly Parton performs You're The Only One at Vinyl Record Memories.com

The Dolly Parton Song lyrics to "You're the Only One" was written by Carole Bayer Sager and Bruce Roberts, and recorded by Dolly in 1979.

Included on the Great Balls of Fire album, the song was released as the album's first single in June 1979, topping the U.S. country singles chart and was her fifth consecutive #1 song since 1977.

This Dolly Parton song  "You're The Only One" brings back those special vinyl record memories of the summer of '79 when I spent many nights alone with Dolly and she sang these words to me.

You're the only one you're the only one...
Take me back to where we started from...
And let's make it now like we made it then...
This old heart ain't gonna break your heart again...

Did her husband Carl or my wife know about that wonderful song we shared late at night. " Not on your life."

You see, I would play Dolly's vinyl record over and over on my turntable with my headphones on. She wasn't really there but I believed she was singing this song just for me.

"Sometimes you've gotta go away to find what you left behind." The lyrics give us an opportunity to look back on old memories and have our past feelings validated by someone's lyrical masterpiece.

Dolly Parton song lyrics.
My favorite Country Lady and song.

Of all the Dolly Parton songs this one has always been one of my favorites.  Patsy Cline has always been my favorite female country singer but Dolly will always be my favorite Country lady.

Her honest approach to life and bubbly personality are what I love most about Dolly.

Pull up a chair, watch the video and enjoy Dolly at an earlier time in her career.  Then you can spend an evening with Dolly and let her sing this song just for you the way she did for me.

Side Note: It is hard to find a good quality Dolly Parton video with this song so until I find a better video please enjoy this one.

Dolly Parton Song Lyrics
"You're The Only One"
Written by Carole Bayer Sager and Bruce Roberts
Recorded by Dolly Parton 1979 #1 song

I found out the hard way...and I'm never gonna break your heart
I know too late and I don't wanna break your heart
Guess I had to go way just to find...what I left behind

You're the only one you're the only one...
Take me back to where we started from...
And let's make it now like we made it then...
This old heart ain't gonna break your heart again...

Nights I lay in bed...and your covers wouldn't warm my feet
And morning found me...bitter or a bit too sweet
Or maybe I had to go away...just to run back and say

You're the only one you're the only one...
Take me back to where we started from...
And let's make it now like we made it then...
This old heart ain't gonna break your heart again...

"You're the only one darling...there'll never be anyone else but you
I love you so much...you are my life
You've become my life...and I never meant to break your heart
But...sometimes you just gotta go way...to find what you left behind."

You're the only one you're the only one...
Take me back to where we started from...
And let's make it now like we made it then...
This old heart ain't gonna break your heart again...

You're the only one...you're the only one...

Take me back to where we started from...
