Dance With Me (Just One More Time) is a Vinyl Record Memories favorite and one of the prettiest waltzes you will hear on a country music song.
The song was written by Johnny Rodriguez and resulted in a #2 listing on the country music charts in 1974.
I purchased the Johnny Rodriguez vinyl album titled, "My Third Album" in 1974. This song
was the main reason for the purchase. After listening to the other songs on the album
I knew Johnny Rodriguez was a special talent.
The song, Dance With Me (Just One More Time), has a beautiful melody and over the years has remained one of my favorites by Johnny. I reviewed the original outline and decided to rewrite the page with a story line based on the lyrics of the song. I do hope you enjoy the story that follows.
Gary stood at the edge of the dance floor, his heart heavy as he watched Annabelle, his former girlfriend, from across the room. Their relationship had ended months ago, but seeing her again at their friend's wedding brought all the memories rushing back.
As the band began to play, "Dance With Me" (Just One More Time), a slow, melancholy tune, Gary found himself walking towards Annabelle. "May I have this dance?" he asked softly, extending his hand. Annabelle hesitated for a moment before nodding, allowing Gary to lead her onto the dance floor.
As they danced to the music, Gary was reminded of all the dances they had shared before - at proms, parties, and quiet evenings at home, but none more special than this one...
"Dance with me once again darlin'...Though you no longer be mine...Soften the pains that are starting...Dance with me just one more time."
"I know I made mistakes," Gary whispered, his voice thick with emotion. " I said things I shouldn't have, and I hurt you. But for just this moment, can we forget all that? Can we dance together one last time to our favorite song?"
Annabelle's eyes glistened with unshed tears as she looked up at him. "Gary, what's done is done. We can't go back."
"I know," he replied, pulling her closer. "But for this song, let's pretend. Let's remember the good times, and the love we shared, just for now, like we used to."
As the music played on, Gary and Annabelle moved closer together. For those few minutes, the pain of their breakup faded away, replaced by bittersweet memories of happier times.
As the song came to a close, they slowly pulled apart. Annabelle gave Gary a sad smile, squeezing his hand gently before walking away. Gary watched her go, knowing that their favorite song, Dance With Me (Just One More Time), was truly their last.
Gary realized that while he and Annabelle's romantic relationship was over, the dance had given him closure. He could now move forward, cherishing the memories they shared but ready to open his heart to new possibilities.
Overall, the song, Dance With
Me (Just One More Time) blends wistful nostalgia, regret, and a desire
for one final meaningful connection before truly saying goodbye.
Watch this special video included with this great song. You can also sing along as I have provided the Dance With Me Lyrics for your enjoyment.
And while you're at it, take your lady by the hand, walk her to the dance floor, and ask her to Dance with you...Just one More Time.
Dance With Me (Just One More Time) - 1974
Written and recorded by Johnny Rodriguez
Here I am once again asking...You to dance with me
tonight
Sadly pretending I'm happy...And God above only knows why
Dance with me once again darlin'...Though you no longer be mine
Soften the
pains that are starting...Dance with me just one more time...
I know I made my mistakes dear...By telling you things that weren't
true
Don't worry about being true dear...Can I have this last dance with
you
Dance with me once again darlin'...Though you no longer be mine
Soften the
pains that are starting...Dance with me just one more time
Dance with me once again darlin'...Though you no longer be mine
Soften the
pains that are starting...Dance with me just one more time
Dance with me just one more time.
Johnny's smooth and easy to listen to voice and the way he blends the English and Spanish lyrics make his albums even more unique and refreshing.
The songs that made Johnny famous such as "Pass Me By", "Riding My Thumb to Mexico", and this wonderful country waltz can be listened to over and over again and will be just as enjoyable the 100th time around.
Little did I know when I purchased this album that one of the fiddle players on this song was Johnny Gimble, a well known studio musician from Texas. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gimble when I lived just outside Austin, Texas.
